Lake Saif ul Malook
In a Glimpse:
At the northern end of the Kaghan Valley in the Mansehra district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, there lies a mountainous lake called Saiful Mulook. At an elevation of 3,224 meters above sea level, this lake is one of the highest lakes in Pakistan.

Snow melting into Lake Siaf ul Malook
With its majestic self, this lake carries a lot of interesting mystical tales of fairies and princes because of its undefined beauty. Saif ul Malook was formed in the greater Pleistocene Period, almost 300,000 years back. Because of rising temperatures and receding glaciers, the melted water was gathered in a large depression where the glacier once stood.

Accessibility and Climate:
Jheel Saiful Malook is mostly accessible during summer, which is from May to mid-September. The weather in these months remains pleasant. However, the access during winter is limited as heavy snowfall and landslides threaten to segregate the lake from other regions.

The journey to the lake starts from the capital city of Pakistan – Islamabad. From there, one can either opt for the local transport on a tiny budget or choose to travel privately. Expediting the journey on Hazara Motorway, one will reach Mansehra city from Abbottabad.

From the city of Mansehra, one has to take the Naran-Babusar top road, which leads straight to the valley of Naran Kaghan via Balakot. After reaching the Naran valley, tourists can visit Saif ul Malook by a thrilling hike or a 30-minute adventurous and curvy jeep ride.

Nature:
Popular as one of the most beautiful tourist attractions in the world, Lake Saiful Malook has left many travelers speechless. It has rich eco-diversity and carries many species of blue-green algae, giving the lake its turquoise hue.

Lying in the mighty shadows of Malika Parbat, tales have it that the depth of the lake remains unknown to date. However, research shows that the depth of Lake Saif ul Malook is around 34 meters (113 ft), and it covers 2.75 km square of surface area. The water temperature of the lake remains below 10 degrees as it mostly receives glacial waters. Large brown trout are found in the icy waters of the Jheel.

Not only does this lake look mesmerizing in shiny daylight, but it also leaves an awe-striking impact on travelers with its nighttime beauty. Those who camp here during the night have witnessed the milky way with billions of stars, hence, this place has many tales of fairies associated with it.

Tales associated:
The story of this lake is linked to Ansoo Lake. It is said that there was a prince in Kaghan named Saif ul Malook, who fell in love with a princess fairy named Badar Jamal. Their love story was not an easy one, as a demon named Duo Safaid (White Giant) was also in love with the fairy princess.

Duo Safaid trapped her, but later it came to his knowledge how she wanted to marry the prince Saif ul Malook. On realizing his defeat in love, he cried; so much that it formed a lake which is now known as the Ansoo Lake. A difficult trek of seven to nine hours from lake Saif ul Malook can lead up to the glorious Ansoo Lake.

Activities at Lake Saiful Malook:
Besides the natural beauty that this place possesses, there are a lot of other activities this area offers. One can do water sports, snow sliding on the glacier, and horse/pony riding near the lake.

boat rides on the crystal-clear waters of the lake
The camping adventure is an experience. Travelers are offered boat rides on the crystal-clear waters of the lake by the locals on their small wooden canoes. A simple walk around the lake with the smell of delectable food from the stalls can brighten up anyone’s travel experience. The area has a lot of restaurants offering local cuisine and a beautiful view of the lake.

Besides this, the place has lot of caves that one can find after a few minutes walk. One can also trek to the mesmerizing Ansoo Lake, which is said to be witnessed by a lucky few because it is mostly covered in fog – the reason it was discovered so late.

=======================

Certainly! Here's an essay about Saif ul Malook Lake:

Saif ul Malook Lake - A Gem of Natural Beauty in Pakistan

Nestled in the heart of the Kaghan Valley in Pakistan, Saif ul Malook Lake is a breathtaking natural wonder that captivates the hearts and minds of all who have the privilege of visiting it. This pristine alpine lake is not only a testament to the raw beauty of nature but also a symbol of Pakistani natural heritage.

Located at an elevation of 3,224 meters (10,577 feet) above sea level, Saif ul Malook Lake is surrounded by towering peaks and lush meadows. The lake's crystal-clear waters mirror the surrounding mountains, creating a stunning reflection that mesmerizes visitors. Its striking blue and green hues change with the varying light conditions, making it a photographer's paradise.

One of the most prominent features of Saif ul Malook Lake is its association with the famous Sufi epic poem of the same name, written by Mian Muhammad Bakhsh. The lake serves as the backdrop for the story of Prince Saif ul Malook's quest to find and win the heart of the fairy princess Badi-ul-Jamal. This literary connection adds an element of mystique to the lake and attracts not only nature enthusiasts but also those interested in the region's rich cultural and literary heritage.

Visitors to Saif ul Malook Lake can experience its serene and tranquil ambiance. The shores are adorned with colorful wildflowers, and the air is filled with the melodious chirping of birds. It's not uncommon to spot various wildlife species, including marmots and a variety of migratory birds, around the lake.

The lake is accessible by trekking or a four-wheel-drive journey, and the surrounding area offers opportunities for hiking and camping, making it a popular destination for adventure seekers. However, it's essential to note that the lake is often frozen in winter due to its high altitude, which adds a whole different dimension of charm to the landscape.

In addition to its natural beauty and cultural significance, Saif ul Malook Lake plays a crucial role in the local ecosystem. It is a source of fresh water for the region, and its watershed area is home to diverse flora and fauna.

In conclusion, Saif ul Malook Lake is a jewel of natural beauty in Pakistan. Its stunning scenery, rich cultural connections, and ecological importance make it a must-visit destination for nature lovers, adventurers, and those seeking a deeper connection with the beauty of the natural world. The lake continues to be a source of inspiration and wonder for all who are fortunate enough to experience its splendor.

Lake Saif ul Malook is a magnificent natural wonder.  An area of pure love and a location where fairies dance in the lake. It is the type of place that, once visited, will drive you insane with its enthralling beauty and aesthetics.

The fairy tale of Saif-ul-Malook (myth)
This magnificent lake’s history is well-known and draws visitors from all around the world. The story follows Saif-ul-Malook, a prince who falls in love with a fairytale princess named Badi-ul-Jamal.

Mian Muhammad Bakhsh, a Sufi saint and Punjabi Hindko poet, adapted the story into a poem. Saif-ul-Malook was an Egyptian prince.  When Saif saw the fairy’s photo, he fell instantly in love with her. He then left his house and embarked on a six-year search for her.

One day, a saint approached Saif in a Cairo street and presented him with a Sulemani cap, informing him that it would transport him to his desired location.

The saint told the prince that he would locate the fairy in a lake but that he would have to pass several difficult exams and pray to obtain her, as she was a fairy queen and he was human. The human sight cannot see a demon or a fairy since they are “fire-borne.”

Saif arrived at the location and immediately began a Chilla. He got exhausted and feeble after praying for 40 straight days without food or rest. It was the fourteenth night of the month, and he reasoned, perhaps tonight he sees her. She was stunning, with long black hair and dazzling blue eyes. She was simply magnificent.

Saif learned from Badi-ul-Jamal that she had been imprisoned in a castle in Koh Qaf for the previous ten years by a white giant. Saif seized her and attempted to flee the valley after hearing the fairy queen’s narrative.

When the white giant learned of this, he generated turbulence in this lake out of rage, resulting in a flood in Kaghan Valley. They (the fairy and the prince) took refuge in a cemetery a few miles from Naran, but Saif and Badi-ul-Jamal sought refuge in a cave near the lake due to the flood.

According to legend, the Ansoo Lake in Kaghan Valley, a few miles from Saif-ul-Malook, was created by the white giant’s tears after discovering the fairy had vanished. According to the famous story, the prince and fairy queen continue to live in that cave and dance above the water’s surface on the fourteenth night of each lunar cycle.

Babusar Pass , Babusar Top

Built at an elevation of approximately 13,691 feet, Babusar Pass also called Babusar Top is a mountain pass situated in Kaghan valley and connects Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province and Gilgit Baltistan region of Pakistan. Babusar Top was previously called Babur Top because this area is said to be crossed by Mughal Emperor Babur often. In the year 1890, the British constructed this track across Babusar joining Gilgit and British India. The best time to visit this beautiful place is between May and September as the weather of Kaghan Valley is extremely pleasing in these months.

Babusar Top is a high mountain pass located in the Gilgit Baltistan region of Pakistan. It connects the Kaghan Valley with the Chilas district of Gilgit Baltistan. The pass is located at an elevation of 4,173 meters (13,691 ft) above sea level and offers breath-taking views of the surrounding mountains and valleys. The road leading to Babusar Top is treacherous and is only accessible during the summer months. It is a popular tourist destination and a must-visit for adventure seekers and nature lovers.

The Babusar Top has breathtaking views of scattered plateaus, green meadows, fast-flowing streams, and the peaks of Kashmir covered in snow. This area is a captivating spectacle for tourists, transforming each journey into a unique and unforgettable experience. The twisting roads leading to Babusar Pass feature sharp, steep bends, and offer breathtaking scenery on both sides.

Babusar Pass is a sought-after summer destination for outdoor enthusiasts, thanks to its rich biodiversity. The nearby pine and oak forests are home to various bird species, including snow cocks, owls, hawks, and pigeons.

The region boasts an abundance of sheep and wild goats. However, farming is quite challenging here due to the harsh climate and high altitude.

Driving the winding road to the top of Babusar Pass
Babusar Pass is a high mountain pass at an elevation of 4,179m (13,710ft) above sea level located on the boundary of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit-Baltistan provinces of Pakistan. It’s one of the most hairpinned roads in the world.
Where is Babusar Pass?
The pass connects the Kaghan Valley via the Thak Nala with Chilas on the Karakoram Highway. The pass is at a distance of 80 km from Naran. It is on the way to the pass that the Kaghan valley's scenery becomes most dramatic. The area is a famous tourist spot over the years with a number of attractions nearby.

Can a car go to Babusar Top?
The road to the summit, also known as Babusar Top, was recently paved. Due to the unavailability of necessary facilities, one should take eatables and necessary items with them. The road is wide and usable for all kinds of vehicles. It is a typical Pakistani mountain road, with hills on one side and a deep khud (valley) on the other side. Although there are efforts to upgrade the road, most progress has been made on the Chilas side. You should definitely get local advice before crossing the pass. The PTDC in Naran is a good source; in Chilas, try field officers at the Northern Areas Public Works Department (NAPWD) executive engineer office, or Natco drivers on the Babusar village run. The road over the pass was first constructed by the British as an alternate route to connect Gilgit agency with British India. Every year many deaths happen here due to the mountainous slopes, which are among the most dangerous in the world. The most common reason for death is the brake failure of cars due to nexperience. Towards the top of Babusar Pass, the turns are sharper and steeper. Make sure your car’s brakes, exhaust systems, and heater are in good condition.

How long is Babusar Pass?
The road to the summit is called National Highway 15 (N-15). The road is 226 km (140 miles) long, running south-north from Mansehra (the capital of Mansehra District in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province) to Chilas (the divisional capital of Diamer District in Gilgit-Baltistan).

The mesmerizing view of huge mountains covered slightly with snow leaves one spell bounded. The Kaghan Valley can be approached easily by road from the capital of Pakistan, Islamabad, or Peshawar. Babusar Pass is the highest point in the valley and can be accessed by cars but to ensure a safe drive, it is recommended to hire a local driver as they have a better understanding of the rough roads over here.

The journey towards Babusar includes the captivating views of Lulusar Lake and Besal Lake. The weather is very cold over here so; don’t forget to wear warm clothes.

There are many food joints located over here serving tempting food. Accommodations nearby include Galaxy Inn Hotel Burawahi, Pakistan Hotel, and Restaurant and, Imran Hilltop Hotel, and Restaurant Babusar. Hence, if you are looking for a scenic location to spend your day at, then Babusar Pass will be an ideal choice.

History of Kalam Valley
Suvastu was an ancient and peaceful valley in Pakistan. It was first known as Udyana before it changed to Suvasthi in the 11th century (approx).

The history of Swat continues back 2000 years ago when this land had been settled by people who lived here until the11th Century.

The game of power led to Mahmud of Ghazni’s conquest of Swat valley. The ritual for acquiring land continued, and it was then taken over by Yusufzai tribesmen in the 10th century.

The economy of Swat Valley thrived during the 19th century due to agriculture and trade.

Akhund Sahib, who believed in Muslim law, was able to make it one of the significant areas for businesses because many things were being traded, such as livestock, carpets, etc.

The population of Swat valley is around 1,257,602, and they have several cultural groups living in which the most prominent ones are Pakhtuns.

Yusufzais live here as well with their language that can’t be understood by everyone else but has its roots in ancient Sanskrit. Kohistani’s reside on this land too.

The Swat Valley is known as mini Switzerland with its landscapes in natural beauty. It was one of Pakistan’s most visited areas and had a vital tourism industry that supported many jobs for locals.

Still, it faced some troubles when Taliban attacks led to conflicts between them and army troops at different parts of the valley, which diminished visitor numbers, causing a decline in the income generated by this source alone.

The conflict between Sufi Muhammad and his son-in-law started in the 1990s when they tried to impose sharia law on swat valley.

This led to many people’s resistance, which resulted in a war of Swat with the Pakistani army taking control over 2008.

Culture Of Kalam Valley
Kalam festival is a month-long event that takes place in July or August.

The Kalam Valley and Mahodand are two scenic areas where people visit for this celebration, with tourism as one of its many attractions.

Mahodand Lake, Swat
Switzerland of East

In Northern Pakistan there is a piece of land called Swat – often referred to as the “Switzerland of East”. It’s famous for its surreal natural beauty. In the center of this land there is a lake like no other called, Mahodand Lake. It’s undoubtedly one of the most beautiful lakes in the world.

The lake is located 40kms from Kalam, in the Ushu Valley, which is a part of the infamous Hindu-Kush mountain Range. The lake is 9,400 ft above sea level and spread over 2kms in length. To get to this magical lake, you have to leave early in the morning, because it takes around 3-4 hours to get to the lake. On your way there, you will get patches of metal road, but most of the path is just rocks and gravel. I wouldn’t suggest taking your own car because it will get abused from underneath. Hire a Jeep from the local market or ask the receptionist of your rest house in Kalam to arrange one for you.

Even though the path is not perfect, it has so many views to offer, that you can’t even imagine. You pass through a forest, then drive along a river and eventually drive alongside high-rise mountains, all within a span of 3-4 hours.

After a lot of twist and turns, the lake finally unveils itself to you, and it’s hard to take your eyes off it. Next to the lake you’ll have horses running around in all their glory. There is a campsite set for you, you can even hire a boat to experience the lake up close, or you can just sit down and relax.

If you are lucky enough, and the clouds don’t block your view, from the lake you can spot the highest mountain of the valley with the height of 19,416ft, called Falak Ser.

Even though the lake is really beautiful, tourists have ruined the area around the lake. Nobody cares about the trash and there is litter all around. So, if you plan a visit to the lake, I would suggest taking a garbage bag with you and avoid littering there. And if you’re feeling particularly adventurous, you could also pick up as much litter as you can.
